Resident Talent Pass

Introduced in April 2011 with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) and the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM), the Residence Pass Talent (RPT) is a 10-year renewable visa for highly skilled expatriate talents seeking to stay on a longer-term basis in Malaysia.

Benefits

  • Ability to live and work in West Malaysia for up to 10 years.
  • Flexibility to change employers without having to renew the pass.
  • Spouse* and children under 18 years old are eligible for the RP-T dependent pass.
  • Dependents over 18 years old, parents and parents-in-law are eligible for a renewable one-year Social Visit Pass for up to five years.
  • Spouse* can also seek employment without the need to apply for an Employment Pass.
  • Spouse* and children under 18 years old are also eligible to study in Malaysia.
  • This is only applicable to children under 18 years who are pursuing their primary/secondary education in Malaysia (higher/tertiary education is not included).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Has worked in Malaysia for a minimum of three (3) consecutive years at the time of application.
  • Holds a valid Employment Pass with more than 3 months validity during the submission/resubmission of the application.
  • Earns a basic monthly salary of RM15,000 which excludes any allowances and/or bonuses.
  • Has a Malaysian income tax file number and has paid income tax for the most recent 2 years (minimum) at the time of application. Total annual income declared in the 2 years’ tax filings needs to be commensurate with the minimum monthly income (at least RM180,000 per annum).
  • Holds a PhD/Master’s/Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in any discipline from a recognized university or a professional/competency certificate from a recognized professional institute.
  • Possesses at least 5 years of total work experience.
