Digital Nomad Visa

Malaysia does offer Digital Nomad Visa named as De Rantau Programme for those digital nomads to work remotely while residing in the country for a period of up to 12 months multiple entry visa for the initial period and the possibility to extend for another 12 months. The visa holders are allowed to bring dependents (Spouse, Common-Law Partner, Children under 18 years old, and parents) to the country during the visa period.

The dependents are not allowed to work, and study in Malaysia, unless he/she applies for a student visa.

There are some basic requirements to meet in order to apply for the digital nomad visa.

Tech Talent

  1. Definition: If you are working as a digital freelancer, independent contractor, and remote worker who are IT & digital professional in various domains, digital marketing, digital creative content, digital content development etc are categorised as Tech Talent. 
  2. Annual Income: At least USD 24,000 annually

Non-Tech Talent

  1. Definition: If you are at the position of C Suite, Managerial Position, Professionals (such as Accountant, Business Development, Legal Counsel, Tax Specialist) or any related position equivalent to the above positions are categorised as Non-Tech Talent. 
  2. Annual Income: At least USD 60,000 annually
