Immigration expecting over RM5bil revenue for 2022

Malaysia's Immigration Department expects to collect more than RM5 billion in revenue this year across its various programmes, including the Premium Visa Programme (PVIP), Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin has said.

As of 9 November, collections stood at RM4.8 billion — already ahead of the year's RM3.5 billion target.

"This collection of revenue is generated from the employment levy (and) we expect revenue collection of more than RM5 billion because we have also started the PVIP programme. The PVIP campaign is actively carried out abroad to attract foreigners to invest in the country," — Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin, at a press conference after launching the department's digital ePASS system

PVIP, which Hamzah launched on 1 September, aims to draw global investors to invest in and settle in Malaysia for 20 years under a "Residency Through Investment" model, intended to boost foreign direct investment and create local jobs.

New digital ePASS system

Hamzah also detailed the newly launched ePASS, a digital pass for Temporary Work Visit Pass renewals across all sectors — first-time passes still use the physical sticker. The ePASS is issued either as a PDF for digital devices or a printed physical copy attached to the passport, and can be verified via the immigration department's portal by scanning its QR code. Applications go through the department's official online portal. A total of 57,167 ePASSes had been issued since the service launched on 6 September.
