Tourism Ministry to empower Muslim-friendly industry players

Capacity-building for Muslim-friendly operators
Muslim-friendly tourism industry players will be given capacity-building courses to strengthen the sector, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing told the Dewan Rakyat in his winding-up speech on Tuesday (31 October).
"Among the initiatives implemented are the Muslim-friendly tourism and hospitality assurance and recognition programme as well as launching Muslim-friendly tourism packages for the Asian, Middle Eastern and European markets," — Tiong King Sing, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister
Coordination through the Islamic Tourism Centre
Tiong said implementation would fall under the purview of his deputy, Khairul Firdaus Akhbar Khan, and that any state government interested in developing Muslim-friendly tourism destinations could coordinate directly with the deputy minister or the Islamic Tourism Centre, the agency responsible for the initiative.
The ministry said in August that it was targeting 3.2 million Muslim visitors this year, generating an estimated RM49.2 billion in tourism income.
